As recent events in Redondo Beach, California highlight, violence can quickly transform a
fun night out at the movies into a tragedy beyond all reckoning. Last February, the 13 year old son of Richard and Maria Williams, along with an unidentified teenage girl, were attacked and stabbed outside the South Bay Galleria. According to police records, the attack was only one of 128 crimes reported at the mall in a three month period.
A Cesspool Of Crime
This dismal record, coupled to a completely inadequate surveillance system designed to deter crime in the area, has led the 13-year-old’s parents to sue the mall owners and the company responsible for security at the facility, Forest City Enterprises and Andrews International Inc, respectively for negligence and premises liability.
“I had no idea it was a cesspool of crime there.” The elder Williams told media sources. Since the brutal attack, which punctured the boy’s lungs and heart, the family has amassed more than $300,000 in medical bills. It was these debts that spurred the lawsuit after the companies refused to help defray the mammoth expense.
“Someone needs to be held accountable.” The father pointed out for his reason in hiring an attorney to pursue their legal options.
